These are notes from the PULSE Art Fair.

Lois Comfort Tiffany

1870s traveled the world

1880s made armory room, was an interior decorator

** different company than the Tiffany jewelry company

Tiffany was recognized during the period. Museums were buying his work.

Originally the Tiffany lamps were oil. You could bring them back to the company and they would electrify them.

Clara Driskoll … women had better color sense, smaller hands. So women made a lot of the Tiffany art. They selected the glass, then the men did the iron work.

~~

From a talk about Values of Old Stuff: Ask yourself three questions,

Is it realistic that grandma owned a valuable object?

Don’t believe the hype.

For those of you who criticize Janelle’s signature monochromatic look.

From her speech on “Black Girls Rock”:

“When I started my music career, I was a maid. I used to clean houses. My mother was a proud janitor. My stepfather, who raised me like his very own, worked at the post office and my father was a trashman. They all wore uniforms and that’s why I stand here today, in my black and white, and I wear my uniform to honor them.

This is a reminder that I have work to do. I have people to uplift. I have people to inspire. And today, I wear my uniform proudly as a Cover Girl. I want to be clear, young girls, I didn’t have to change who I was to become a Cover Girl. I didn’t have to become perfect because I’ve learned throughout my journey that perfection is the enemy of greatness.

Embrace what makes you unique, even if it makes others uncomfortable.” - Janelle Monáe

We will begin charging for some of our VIP tours at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The money will be used to pay museum educators and theater professionals. Also for team building exercises at the Korean Spa Castle in Queens.

If money is ever an issue — please email me and I can write you up a Hack The Met itinerary or walk you through some great spots over the phone.

Fish Oil

Vitamin D

Rarely consuming:

Alcohol

Dairy

Black tea and coffee

Beef, chicken, lamb, pork

Frequently consuming:

Green tea

LEMONS all day errry day

Vegetables and homemade juices, like cucumbers, spinach, carrots, ginger

Sardines

Hummus

Steel cut oats, with almonds, walnuts, raisins, coconut oil, cinnamon

WELLNESS THOUGHTS

I currently have a cold, or allergies, or something. It causes me to have a stuffy nose, sore throat, and lower energy at night.

But whatever I have feels unlike any other time I have ever been sick in my life. It feels healthier. I have more energy. I can still be functional for long hours of the day. Plus, when I blow my nose, my mucus (boogers) are very dry. It’s not the runny nose misery that I previously experienced.

This is incredibly interesting to me. After going to the Tony Robbins seminar in Florida in October (recap), I loved that these presenters claimed to have never gotten sick in the last 15 years.

Sorry my post is too long. Going to do some house chores now but wanted to check in. Eating less meat, basically no dairy, lots and lots of fish and vegetables, no alcohol for the last month… feeling sharp. Even with a head cold. First in my life. New beginnings? Or just a fluke. Let’s wait and see!

Photo

"The people we tend to admire most are the ones who live their lives without apology.

Tokyo National Museum

Closing Procedures: I noticed that when the museum was closing, they played music over the speakers. Specifically, an easy-going instrumental version of Auld Lang Syne.

Lots of seating.

Free Lockers! So very helpful. To store bags and backpacks and jackets.

Miraikan Science Museum

Huge nicely designed building with a massive welcome lobby. Interesting stair design that leads to all levels.

Now on the fifth floor, I find the layout to be very confusing. I walk in a linear fashion. But here I see info about sea bed exploration next to the solar system. Hard for me to follow along with train of thought.

My favorite exhibit — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_08DIICROs

Thinking about layers of the earth. The crust, mantle, and core. About 6,378,000 meters deep! We have only dug down 7,000 meters.

The age of the universe is thought to be about 13.7 billion years.

There are about 128,050,000 people in Japan.

Japan has good background noise. It’s like a futuristic elevator music.

Leaving the museum, I saw a policeman drop some papers on accident. They scattered into the wind. Immediately, EVERYONE nearby rushed to his help to chase after the papers.

Apologies in advance if any of it seems contrived or awkward.

I feel bad about outsourcing a part of my friendship, but also excited.

I feel bad because when my friends have done this in the past (used a secretary to book social time), it made me feel not important. And it made me feel like my friends were sort of fake, because do you really need an assistant just so we can meet for tacos after work?

But I’m also excited. Having help to nail down the logistics of meetings and manage my calenar is very nice. Plus I have some big news to talk about, and using an assistant to pick dates and times helps to keep me focused.

I haven’t had the chance to sit 1-on-1 with friends as often as I’d like. Outsourcing the setup will allow me to focus more on what I love doing, which is hosting friends in my space.

Making tea, catching up, and hopefully talking good about the future.

Looking forward to this experiment over the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience, #FirstName [sic] —Nick

Photo

strle: Better than the original.

strle: Better than the original.

"There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all."

“There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.”

- Peter Drucker (via rianvdm)

Photo
