CES 2012 Super Quick Day 1 Notes
- Spent all day in the Asian vendors area for work so didn’t see much in the main halls.
- End of the day we went to Samsung’s very large booth. WOWOWOW the 55” OLED TV is just plain AMAZING. One of the best ways to judge a display is by how dark the black gets (Contrast Ratio) and the blacks on display here were deep, deep, rich rich no-power black-hole black. The viewing angle appeared almost perfectly 180 degrees on horizontal axis.
- LG has a similar display (55” OLED) that seemed a little nicer, if only because it was a tad bit more thin. Approx 1/8” (yes TINY!!!). Likely they are using a detached electronics box to house the A/D board w/video inputs.
- GREAT displays in Samsung booth overall, LED backlit LCDs… REALLY quality stuff. And an awesome booth design. Very “WOW” factor.
- Got to play with LTE wireless service in Samsung’s booth on some of their tablets. LTE = super super fast 4G data. It was amazingly fast, blows my 3G phone away.
- Saw several small vendors in Asian pavilion using large 42” touchscreen LCDs, orientated in Portrait mode and running Windows 7. They were just using the LCDs for single touch (not multi), surfing the web, browsing photos, etc. This is WAY COOL and I hope it’s the future. Using my computer, standing up, with huge 42- or 55-inch portrait mode touchscreen = heaven.
- Going to the Gizmodo party tonight, thanks Scott Kidder! But I am not drinking b/c HEALTH MONTH 2012 in full effect (no alcohol).
