“I wanted to tell you that I have been following your work out advice and lifting weights every time I work out. Not the weight machines, just free hand weights. But I do a few reps of a couple different exercises with 5 lbs weights. I have lost 3 lbs!! Just since I have been doing that I have gone from weight about X lbs to weighing X-3 lbs. It is crazy how just adding that on makes me burn calories so much more efficiently!”
— From a 20-something girl who reads my Tumblr. She wants to tone up. I suggested lifting free weights for a few minutes before doing cardio.
Greetings from France… Our rented house is in France, but we commute over the border to Switzerland (Geneve).
So it looks like my meetings in Germany last week were only a warm-up compared to what is in store here. EBACE 2008 starts tomorrow and it is the biggest show in Europe for private aviation (business jets). This evening I got a glimpse of how business is conducted at the upper eschelons. We are talking like VIPs with bodyguards (a colleague saw a guy with four bodyguards this morning). Then I had some dinner conversation with an exec who told me about how to easily get dual American passports! Helpful for when you send one away to get a visa.
The scene here is really inspiring. It makes me want to work harder and smarter. Do you ever get that feeling? Maybe when you see a great movie or an awesome piece of art, or you read an amazing short story… You feel like your life is just beginning and the future is so damn bright. We can do anything when we put our minds to it.
OK I am going to sleep now. Remind me to tell you about the new G650. And don’t let this Geneva hype underscore the amazing Sunday that I had in Cologne! Thanks again Fabian.
Kate Nash - Foundations … Am I the only American who has never heard Kate Nash? Every single German in the club last night knew the words to this song.
I just finished up my first meeting/convention series so I decided to go out with Fabian for some fun last night.
The party scene is crazy here. We didn’t leave for the club until midnight… and some of the after-parties didn’t start until 7am. I guess they do that in a lot of places around the world, too.
Trying to think of something interesting to write, hmm. Really wish I could have gone to the Tumblr meetup on Friday and Mark’s party at the Whisk and Ladle last night! Because it’s nice to have great friends and make little jokes in English. (My way of saying I miss you guys.)
Work is going really well. I never write about exactly what I do. I have been in flux since I “left” the company about eight months ago, then I was working on a big software project that got put on hold. But now I am coming back to our family business and am defining a new role for myself (International Marketing). It’s great, sometimes I get really excited about it.
Oh, man - the bread is so good here in Germany. I’m going to eat some right now! And people love to play backgammon and smoke hand-rolled cigarettes.
I got the Paris situation figured out - THANK YOU to Akshay and Janelle.
Really loving my bike around Cologne.
THANK YOU to Zach Klein who introduced me to his friends Fabian and Mareen here in Germany. Fabian has been an AWESOME guide and is definitely a new friend.
Going on a dinner cruise down the Rhine river tonight.
Thinking a lot about how I can train harder/be more prepared for jet lag. It kicked my ass on Wednesday and Thursday, but I think I have it under control today.
Wow, I have to pack up a TON of stuff and get on the boat in about 10 minutes.
I have a cell phone here, you can call me at 011-49-160-95018678
