Oats and Iron

Steel cut oats are my favorite food. I used to type a lot about diet and weight training, but these days I share more about my friends and random things I am thinking about.

Eccentrics are delicate and need room to grow. Perhaps a gentler or more balanced approach to telling stories of our lives is in order. An attitude of “these guys are crazy but we love ‘em anyway” might be better for everyone than today’s apparent mission: “destroy the weirdos”.

Emphasis at the end is mine. I had a similar conversation with someone last night - what’s the difference between GOOD weird and BAD weird? What does “weird” really mean when we say it? It means you don’t have any references to compare something to. It’s new, it’s different.

I am happy to count Jake as one of my most weird friends - in the new, different, good sense. I am so excited for the STANDARDS project he is working on and how it is affecting my own life.

Peter Cooper built the first train, installed the first telegraph cable across an ocean, ran for President, founded and endowed a free world class university, brought peace between Native Americans and western states, and invented Jell-O.
What’s your excuse?

YES people, let’s build something big! (I say this as I check my Tumblr… hmmm) Makes me think of a Stephen King quote that I read recently that said something like — “I’m 60 years old and I spent 10 hours a day in front of a glowing electronic tube (either a TV or a monitor). Is that really what I need to be doing right now?”
